Closures of Non-Essential Retail and Commercial Businesses

Yesterday, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez ordered closures of the County’s non-essential retail and commercial businesses, beginning at March 19, 2020, 9:00pm. Extensions on Legal Deadlines

According to The Florida Bar, Chief Justice Charles Canady plans to release new emergency orders over the next days to further extend legal deadlines and to make other changes to court rules necessary to meet the crisis. All emergency orders previously issued will be extended for at least another three weeks.

Update on Florida Courts E-filing Portal :

The Florida Courts E-Filing Portal is open and available to anyone who needs to file documents, and the Portal Help Desk remains available during regularly scheduled business hours. The Portal will be down for routine maintenance on March 21.

IRS Defers Tax Payments and Filing to July 15th:

On March 17, 2020, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced that individual taxpayers who owe up to a million dollars in federal taxes can defer paying until July 15, while corporations can defer up to $10 million. Miami-Dade Courts closed until March 27, 2020

Starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020, all court facilities will be closed to the public, except for access required for emergency or mission critical court matters. The Honorable Bertila Soto, Chief Judge of the Miami-Dade Courts, issued an Administrative Order on Monday implementing the courts’ Continuity of Operations Plans and closing all court facilities to the public. Extensions on CLE Reporting Deadlines:

The deadlines for Florida Bar members scheduled to report their three-year cycle CLE reporting in February, March, April, and May, have been extended to August 31, 2020.
